The Sindh Health Department on Sunday released its latest report on confirmed dengue cases across the province, revealing that 439 new cases had so far been reported in October, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in 2025 to 1,083.
Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho said the Karachi Division remained the most affected division in October with 188 cases reported so far during the month, followed by the Hyderabad Division with 154 cases, Mirpurkhas Division with 83 cases, Sukkur Division with 10 cases, Shaheed Benazirabad Division with three cases, and Larkana Division with one case.
Dr Azra maintained that the health department maintained the complete record of all confirmed dengue cases received from government hospitals. “If a patient undergoes testing at a private laboratory, that report is not included in our official data,” she stated, emphasising that the figures released by the health department were verified and authentic.
She urged the public not to believe unverified information or rumours circulating on social media, adding that data of all patients admitted to hospitals or treated in outpatient departments (OPDs) was properly maintained by the department.
The health minister further stated that the Sindh government was working seriously to curb dengue across the province. Anti-dengue measures, including fumigation and drainage improvement, had been intensified in all districts, she said, adding that deputy commissioners and district health officers had been instructed to ensure that water remained stagnant nowhere as it served as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
She said the government was paying equal attention is the urban and rural areas in this regard, and separate dengue units had been established in all the government hospitals where free treatment and testing facilities were being provided.
