KARACHI: A man brought the body of his three-year-old daughter to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities on Wednesday evening, police said.
The man, identified as Shahzad, told the police that the body was handed over to him by his estranged wife, who lived separately along with their daughter.
The woman had allegedly called him to arrive outside the Edhi morgue in New Karachi to take the body and when he reached there, she gave him the body and escaped, the father told the police.
The police added that the body of the girl, identified as Amna, bore “torture marks”.
According to Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi, when the police reached the hospital after receiving the information, the father told the investigators that his estranged wife has escaped after giving him the body.
He also told the police that his wife had approached the court for ‘khula’ (dissolution of marriage).
Efforts are underway to trace the mother, added the SSP.
New Karachi SHO Shaukat Awan told Dawn that the father told the police that he did not know where his estranged wife lived.
The police were waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of the death, he added.
