KARACHI: A sessions court has sentenced a man to life in prison in a drug trafficking case.
Additional and District Session Judge (West) Aurangzeb Shah, pronounced his verdict after recording evidence presented by both the prosecution and defence. The court found the driver of a trailer Jumma Gul guilty of possessing 27 kilograms of charas and 2.4 kilograms of opium.
The court order stated, `Jumma Gul, son of Mola Dad, has been found guilty of violating Section 6 of the Control of Narcotics Substances (Sindh Amendment) Act, 2021, by possessing 27,010 grams of charas and 2,400 grams of opium. He is thereby sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life under Section 9 (c) read with Section 265-H (2) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Additionally, a fine of Rs1 million was imposed on the convict and in case of default, he would have to undergo an additional one-year imprisonment.
Regarding the ownership of the truck, since no claimant has come forward, the court ordered its confiscation.
According to state prosecutor Muhammad Arif Satai, in September 2021, Shershah police received a tip-off about a trawler truck heading from Paracha Chowk to Shershah Gulbai Road. -Staff Reporter
