KARACHI: Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on 24-March-2025 chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office (CPO) Karachi where he reviewed progress in delivering medical facilities to the cops.
Officials said IGP Memon directed that a formal letter be sent to the health department for the appointment of medical consultants to the Police Hospital Karachi, while uninterrupted provision of OPD, diagnostic laboratories, medicine and other medical facilities in police hospitals across Sindh should also be ensured.
The meeting held at the CPO Karachi was attended by the DIGs Establishment and Finance, the AIGs of Admin and Welfare and the MS Police Hospital along with doctors.
The medical superintendent of the Police Hospital Karachi, in a briefing given to the participants on the doctors in the OPD, the performance of the diagnostic laboratory and the available medicines, said 400 to 500 patients are using the OPD facility at the Police Hospital every day, while various blood tests are being ensured according to modern requirements and standards for the diagnosis of various diseases.
However, keeping in mind the number of patients on a daily basis, there is a need to make more doctors, especially the immediate services of medical consultants, available at the hospital.
The IGP directed that special attention should be paid to the best arrangements for OPD, laboratory and supply of medicines in Sindh Police hospitals, while comprehensive recommendations should be sent to the health department immediately for hiring the services of more expert doctors and consultants for orthopaedics, psychiatry, E&T/eye, ear, throat, gynaecology and other essential departments in the hospitals.
He said it is very important to bring the medical facilities available in police hospitals to the level of other standard hospitals in the city. In addition, it is also necessary to have health insurance for police employees as well as the best treatment facilities in Sindh Police hospitals.
