The Sindh Workers’ Welfare Board (WWB) will present electric scooters to labourers from religious minorities in the province as a special Independence Day gift.
According to a handout issued on 10-August-2025, Sindh Labour Secretary Rafiq Qureshi said the white segment of Pakistan’s national flag symbolises the country’s religious minorities and guarantees protection of their fundamental rights.
He reaffirmed that the provincial WWB would take all possible measures to ensure the welfare and uplift of workers in Sindh. Qureshi announced that the WWB had approved an investment of Rs3 billion in Shariah-compliant Sukuk bonds to generate funds for workers’ welfare. He added that the Sindh government would soon launch an accidental health insurance scheme, providing coverage of up to Rs700,000 per year, with treatment facilities available at 270 hospitals nationwide.
He further announced that complete housing units would be constructed for labourers, each equipped with solar power systems. Solar systems would also be installed at WWB-run schools for children of the labourers. Students enrolled in these schools would receive free uniforms twice a year.
The labour secretary said all operations of the Sindh WWB were being digitised to ensure transparency and fairness in welfare schemes for the workers and their families. The financial grant for families of workers in case of accidental death would be increased from Rs700,000 to Rs1 million, while the marriage grant for workers’ daughters would rise from Rs300,000 to Rs500,000.
Qureshi stressed that these initiatives aim to provide sustainable protection, welfare, and uplift for workers and their families, meeting their essential healthcare, educational, energy, and housing needs.
