HYDERABAD: A private school teacher who was injured on October 3 in a targeted shooting succumbed to her injuries during treatment at the Civil Hospital Hyderabad, police confirmed on October 8.
According to the Hyderabad police, on October 3, a culprit identified as Prem Oadh opened fire on Uzma, a teacher of a private school, after she allegedly rejected his marriage proposal. The attack left Uzma critically injured. She had been under treatment at the hospital but passed away on Tuesday.
Police said the accused fled after the incident but was later arrested. A case was already registered against him for attempted murder, and it will now be converted into a murder case. According to Uzma’s family, they had refused the proposal because the suspect was a non-Muslim. Police confirmed that the accused carried out the attack over the rejection.
Earlier, on the day of the incident, Uzma was on her way with her brother when the suspect intercepted her at Jatoi Chowk in Naseem Nagar and shot her in the chest in broad daylight. She was rushed to Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad in a critical state.
Hyderabad SSP Adeel Hussain Chandio took immediate notice of the incident and directed the Naseem Nagar SHO to arrest the suspect. The FIR No 489/2025 was registered on the complaint of Uzma’s brother Arshad, son of Nazir Hattar, resident of Qasimabad Phase-II under the sections 324, 504 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The Naseem Nagar SHO and his team arrested the suspect and recovered the 30-bore pistol used in the crime. The Hyderabad police said they were collecting information about his two unidentified accomplices. SSP Chandio said strict action would be taken against all those involved in such crimes and no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
