KARACHI: Sindh caretaker minister for Finance, Revenue, and Planning and Development, Mohammad Younus Dagha, presided over a review meeting with a focus on the construction of 2.1 million houses for flood victims in the province.
The meeting held at the Sindh Secretariat, Tughlaq House, within the offices of the Planning and Development Department on Wednesday.
Dagha reiterated the Sindh government’s commitment to construct 2.1 million houses for those affected by the floods.
He highlighted that the verification process for 500,000 flood-hit houses has been completed and stressed the importance of promptly releasing funds for their construction.
The minister urged for expedited completion of the verification process for the remaining damaged houses.
During the briefing, it was highlighted that each affected household will receive Rs300,000, with the disbursement process slated to conclude within a fixed six-month timeframe.
Dagha directed that a detailed report on the construction progress over the six-month payment period should be submitted in incremental stages.
He emphasised the need for transparency and quality in all financial disbursements and construction activities.
The caretaker minister instructed officials to swiftly complete documentation procedures, working closely with respective deputy commissioners.
This is to ensure that the affected homeowners receive ownership rights and to facilitate effective oversight with the assistance of relevant NGOs, which will aid in maintaining the construction’s quality standards.
He said that providing homes to flood victims remains one of the top priorities of the Sindh government.
The caretaker minister urged for expedited construction efforts to bring relief to those who lost their homes due to the devastating floods.
Planning and Development Board Chairman, Syed Hasan Naqvi, along with Sindh People’s Housing Scheme for Flood Affectees (SPHF) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Khalid Mehmood Sheikh and other officials, presented a comprehensive briefing to the minister.
