The Sindh police, with the help of intelligence agencies, has saved 802 citizens from being kidnapped by the Kutcha area dacoits this year, according to provincial police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon.
IG Memon said that of the 330 citizens who were kidnapped, 307 have been recovered, while efforts are underway to recover the remaining citizens. The police chief told The News that his department is using modern technology to warn citizens about the activities of bandits. He said the bandits’ communication channels are being monitored.
He also said robbers in different cities of the country befriend their victims by luring them through phone calls made in women’s voices to sell them cars or other cheap goods. Police officials phone these residents of the province, including those living in the Kutcha areas, to warn them not to fall in the trap of these people, he added.
The senior officer said that in this way 802 citizens have been saved from venturing into the Kutcha areas. He said the robbers managed to lure 330 citizens through various other means, but 307 of them have been recovered and efforts are underway to rescue the remaining.
