The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has rescued a four-year-old boy from Keamari and arrested three suspected kidnappers — a married couple and the man’s mother — said SIU SSP Shoaib Memon at a press conference at his office on 17 July 2025.
SSP Memon said ringleader Jameel Burhan was operating a gang with his wife Meera and mother Mumtaz Begum, alias Pirani, and they kidnapped young boys and girls to use them in schemes involving fake spiritual healing practices for extorting large sums of money from their families.
The suspects had established a fake shrine in Saeedabad, where Pirani had received between Rs80,000 and Rs100,000 from the family of Hussain, the kidnapped child. According to the SSP, the SIU worked tirelessly and strategically to expose and arrest all three members of the gang. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
The officer said the child had been kidnapped from Saeedabad seven months ago, and his case had beenhanded over to the SIU in February. He warned that childless couples often resort to kidnapping children, and urged parents not to leave their children unattended.
In response to a media query, he said the interrogation of a recently captured Indian spy has been completed, and no link between the spy and the recent Pak-India tensions has been found. He also revealed that 43 robbery-cum-murder cases have been registered recently, out of which 33 have been solved.
