KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was informed on 21-March-2025 that up to 400,000 homeless victim families of the 2022 severe floods in Sindh had been rehabilitated through the provision of fully built houses constructed under the initiative of the Sindh Peoples Housing for Flood Affectees of the Sindh government.
The PPP chairman was briefed on the project as he chaired a meeting at the Bilawal House. The meeting was also attended by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah. CEO Sindh Peoples Housing for Flood Affectees Khalid Mahmood Shaikh briefed Bilawal about the project.
Bilawal was informed that the status of over two million people as bona fide flood victims had been verified to provide them with housing facilities for their rehabilitation.
Some 11,45,000 bank accounts have been opened to speedily disburse financial assistance to help flood victims rebuild their homes. Some 10,20,000 families have already received financial help for the purpose. Some 6,60,000 houses have been constructed up to the plinth level for the rehabilitation of the homeless flood victims. The Sindh government has reserved plots on the state land for the resettlement of 3,10422 families. The relevant district administrations have been asked to commence the process of giving ownership of the plots to the flood victim families in two weeks. The architecture of houses being constructed for the flood victims has been designed as per the peculiar requirements of the local population, having the provisions for a kitchen, a bathroom, and a courtyard.
Speaking on the occasion, Bilawal praised the speedy execution of the Sindh Peoples Housing for Flood Affectees project for the rehabilitation of the flood victims. He expressed pleasure that the under-construction project would provide shelter to hundreds of thousands of homeless flood victims. The PPP chairman said the past regimes of the Peoples Party in every era had undertaken such massive development initiatives aimed at serving the masses in the best possible manner.
