Home minister says protesters should have respected Section 144

Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar has announced action against the police officials involved in the arrest and torture of the women protesters and journalists in Karachi on Sunday.
An investigation has been ordered on police misbehavior and torture, strict action will be taken against those police officers who tortured journalists despite revealing their identity.
Lanjar said that two separate protests were staged at Karachi Press Club, Teen Talwar and Metropole intersection by Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) and Sindh Rawadari March, despite the imposition of Section 144 in the metropolis.
The home minister said Section 144 was already announced by Commissioner Karachi. However, the protestors violated the law.
Lanjar said that due to Dr Shahnawaz Kanbhar case, civil society and TLP announced protests on the same day at the same time.
The protests were uncalled for because the government was taking necessary measures. He said the Sindh government fulfilled all the legal requirements and an FIR was filed against the police officers and private people involved in Dr Shahnawaz’s custodial murder per the complaint of the parents of Shahnawaz Kanbhar, in which the police officers and officers were arrested. Besides, some police officers and others got bail from the court before arrest.
He said that both of today’s protests were staged at the behest of political organizations.
