A judicial magistrate on November 5 granted bail to the driver of a dumper truck in a case pertaining to the death of a motorcyclist in a road accident involving the heavy vehicle.
Twenty-three-year-old Shahzeb Shahid was killed and his wife Misbah was injured after a dumper truck driven by the suspect, Niazullah Afzal, ran over them on Nishtar Road on November 3.
The investigating officer produced the driver before the judicial magistrate (South) and requested his 14-day police remand for interrogation. The magistrate observed that the sections invoked against the suspect were bailable offences and therefore granted him bail against a surety of Rs3 million. He ordered that the suspect be sent to jail over failure to submit the surety.
An FIR was lodged at the Garden police station under sections 320 (negligent driving) and 337-G (hurt by rash or negligent driving) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of deceased’s father Muhammad Shahid.
