The 18th meeting of the board of governors of the Sindh Teachers Education Development Authority (STEDA) was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah. The meeting approved several key decisions, including the issuance of the first teachers’ licences, strengthening ties with education faculties in universities, and establishing a teachers helpline, along with other agenda items.
The meeting was attended by School Education Secretary Zahid Ali Abbasi, STEDA Executive Director Rasool Bux Shah, and Sindh Assembly members Muhammad Yousuf Baloch, Tanzila Qambrani and Seema Khurram, as well as Saleemuddin Shaikh, Dr Sajid Ali, Inam Shaikh, other board members, and relevant officers.
The participants agreed to continue making serious and consistent efforts to strengthen the role of all sectors involved in teachers’ education in Sindh. It was noted that the courses taught in the education faculties or departments of universities needed to be aligned with market needs and modern teaching methods.
It was also decided in the meeting to launch a helpline to address and resolve teachers’ complaints and issues related to their work. Sardar stated that teachers faced many challenges in their work, which were difficult to monitor and resolve directly. He added that with the help of the teachers helpline, teachers, especially female teachers, would find it easier to have their legitimate issues resolved. “We want to have an effective platform available for teachers’ issues and their resolution, where teachers can feel secure and easily express their concerns,” he said.
The meeting also decided that all the teachers training institutes established for teachers’ education and training in Sindh would be supervised by the STEDA. The board meeting was informed that all necessary steps for the issuance of the first teachers’ licences had been completed. It was further informed that the ceremony for the issuance of the first teachers’ licences in Sindh would be held on July 29.
