The Orangi Town police have arrested the man suspected of attacking a woman and her two minor children. The woman’s son had succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Officials said the suspect is an ice addict, adding that he was apparently interested in the injured woman.
They said the suspect has a criminal history, with cases of robbery, and possession of drugs and illegal weapons registered against him at the Khawaja Ajmair Nagri and Ferozabad police stations. He had also spent time in jail, they added.
Police said the suspect attempted to sexually assault the woman named Ramsha at her house in Orangi Town on October 23. When she resisted, he hurt her with a blade, and severely injured her eight-year-old son Subhan and younger daughter Aleeza with an iron and a battery before fleeing, they added.
Officials said the injured family was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Subhan succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police registered a case against the suspect, Sameer, on the complaint of the woman’s husband, Shahrukh, and began searching for him.
In a late-night operation during the early hours of Sunday, the Orangi Town police caught the suspect.
SHO Arshad Ali said the suspect is a cousin of the victim’s husband and is known to use ice.
The officer said the suspect was interested in the woman and had tried to sexually assault her. When she resisted, he injured her and attacked her children as well because they recognised him, the SHO added.
He said the iron and the battery used in the crime have also been recovered, adding that the suspect had admitted to the crime during interrogation.
The suspect also disclosed that he took the children’s mobile phones and a birdcage containing a parrot before fleeing, the officer added.
