Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori on 12-April-2025 hosted a luncheon reception at the Governor House for the families affected by the recent road traffic accidents (RTAs) involving water tankers and dumper trucks in Karachi. Over 150 victim families attended the event, in which ration bags were also distributed among them.
Speaking at a press conference at the Governor House after the reception, Tessori expressed his gratitude to the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) for taking notice of the issue of fatal accidents in the city based on his letter to the CJP.
“Just a few days ago I had written to the chief justice regarding frequent road traffic accidents. I believe this notice by the Supreme Court will lead to serving justice to the bereaved families and accountability of those responsible.”
The governor urged political parties not to exploit such grave tragedies merely for political gains. “Enough lives have been lost. Karachi can’t afford further unrest. I visited the homes of the victims and personally tried to provide them comfort. We must heal their wounds.”
He made the assurance that proper FIRs would be lodged for such fatal road accidents, and reiterated that no political agenda would be built on these tragedies.
“More than 150 affected families have come to the Governor House on my invitation. We are providing them with plots, ration, financial support, and will also cover the educational expenses of their children.”
He concluded by saying: “Now is the time to talk about education, health and employment. I will place pens, not flags, in the hands of these victims.”
Meeting with mayor
Tessori also held a meeting with Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab at the Governor House. During the meeting the mayor briefed the governor about his ongoing projects, initiatives and performance to develop the city. The two also discussed Tessori’s letter to the CJP regarding fatal RTAs in the city involving heavy motor vehicles, and reaffirmed their commitment to improving the city’s infrastructure and ensuring public safety.
The governor said being the economic hub of Pakistan, Karachi requires collective efforts for its development. “The progress of Karachi is directly linked to the progress of Pakistan.” The mayor reiterated his commitment, saying: “We’re working day and night for the betterment of the city.” Both leaders agreed to collaborate closely for sustainable urban development, public welfare and provision of enhanced municipal services in Karachi.
