Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar suggests that universities can enhance their infrastructure, faculty quality, and research capabilities through increased government funding and public-private partnerships. He shared his thoughts during a visit to Habib University on Wednesday.
Habib University’s President Wasif Rizvi, Lt-Gen (retd) Tariq Waseem Ghazi, and other faculty members welcomed the chief minister and gave him a tour of the cutting-edge campus.
Justice Baqar praised Habib University as a shining example of collaboration between industry and academia. He noted that the private sector has played a vital role in promoting higher education in Pakistan.
The chief minister expressed his satisfaction with the state-of-the-art facilities, faculty, and teaching methods at Habib University. He described it as a “complete package” of excellence in education.
Wasif Rizvi pointed out that Pakistan lags behind Nepal, Bangladesh, and Ghana in higher education, with only 12% of intermediate students able to access higher education opportunities. He stressed the need for the government to explore public-private partnerships to boost investment in the sector.
