Police, Court Management Systems To Be Linked For Efficiency

Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on 30-October-2024 held an important meeting to further improve the investigation department, and decided to link the Police Station Record Management System (PSRMS) with the Case Flow Management System (CFMS).

Officials said the meeting of the officers of the Sindh police and the Prosecution Branch regarding the PSRMS was held at the Central Police Office, Karachi. IG Memon and Sindh Prosecutor General Dr Fayyaz Hussain Shah led the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by the operations Addl IG; additional district & sessions judges; the crime & investigations, establishment, headquarters and IT DIGs; additional and assistant prosecutors; and other police officers.

Officials said that the crime & investigations and IT DIGs provided a detailed briefing to the participants of the meeting about the software.

Crime DIG Amir Farooqi said that 70 to 80 percent of the cases have been registered in the PSRMS, and this record can be easily viewed online.

He said that linking the PSRMS with the CFMS would enable the online preservation of case details, evidence, documents, court proceedings and other necessary information. It would also enable online monitoring of all investigative matters and court proceedings, from FIR registration to the court’s verdict, he added.

PG Shah said that linking the two systems would eliminate documentation errors, unnecessary delays and non-cooperation in cases, adding that the introduction of the PSRMS and the E-Malkhana service by the Sindh police is a commendable step.

He said that the linking of the PSRMS and the CFMS would further strengthen the relationship and linkages between the investigation department and the prosecution branch.

He also said that the two departments would not only work on the same page from the first day of the registration of the case but also ensure mutual cooperation. Moreover, the linking of the system and the cooperation of both departments will significantly improve the conviction rate, he added.

IG Memon said the Sindh police are taking all the possible steps to improve the investigation department, and at the request of the Sindh police, the provincial government has also started providing an additional basic salary to certified investigating officers.

He said that the digitisation of the investigation department would eliminate many shortcomings and delays. He pointed out that the police and the prosecution are a team, so strengthening the investigation department would also strengthen the prosecution branch.
