KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued a comprehensive order calling for a province-wide crackdown on individuals and companies engaged in interest- based businesses.

The High Court’s directive emphasises the necessity for stringent measures against those exploiting people’s hardships.

A significant hearing on the case related to interest based businesses took place in the courtroom of Justice Salah Uddin Panhwar on Wednesday.

The court has mandated the home department and the Inspector General of Sindh Police to initiate this crackdown.

Justice Panhwar emphasised that the IG Sindh should communicate the court orders to all Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to ensure effective action.

The court has set a deadline for the IG to submit a report on the crackdown results by September 26.

Furthermore, the court has instructed a team from the high court to inform all judicial magistrates about the court directives.

Justice Panhwar has also directed the home department to ensure that all deputy commissioners are informed and asked to participate in the operation.

In addition, the court has ordered the formulation of new regulations for the Sindh Prohibition of Interest on Private Loan Act.

The court has further directed the secretary of law to present a report on these new laws within two months.
