Six Cops Get Life In Prison For 77kg Charas Trafficking

KARACHI: A model court on 30-June-2025 sentenced six policemen of the Jamshoro CIA to life imprisonment in a drug trafficking case.

Constables Ghulam Abbas, Muhammad Yaqoob, Aijaz Ali Mallah, Abdul Hameed, Rahib Hussain and Ahmed Nawaz were found guilty of trafficking 77 kilogrammes of charas in a police mobile on July 17, 2021.

Additional Sessions Judge (South) Abdul Hafeez of the Model Criminal Trial Court (South) observed that the prosecution successfully proved its case against the accused person beyond any shadow of doubt.

He sentenced the six convicts to life imprisonment for committing offence punishable under Section 6 and 9-C of Control of Narcotic Substances (Sindh Amendment) Act, 2021.

Additionally, they were awarded two-year imprisonment under Section 155-C of Police Order 2002. The court ordered the convicts to pay a fine of Rs550,000 each or undergo additional four-month imprisonment on default.

All the accused, who turned up in court on bail, were taken into custody and remanded to jail for serving the sentence as per law. “Evidence available on record established that all the accused, were serving police constables, and they misused their official position, uniform, weapons, and a government-issued police mobile to transport a huge quantity of Charas,” observed the judge.

“This act directly attracts the offence under Section 155© of the Police Order, 2002, which deals with misuse of authority by a police officer for wrongful gain or to cause wrongful loss to any person,” he added.

The judge said the investigation officer produced official documents showing that the accused were posted at CIA Centre Jamshoro and that the mobile used in the offence was officially allotted to the Incharge CIA, adding that furthermore, the contraband was recovered from the government vehicle, and the accused were in police uniforms at the time of arrest. “These facts establish that the accused committed an offence under Section 155©, as they clearly abused their lawful authority to engage in illegal drug trafficking,” the judge noted.

State prosecutor Shakeel Ahmed Abbasi contended that on July 17, 2021, a patrolling party of the Boat Basin police received information that police officers in a police van were in possession of huge quantity of charas to supply it. Acting swiftly, the team intercepted the vehicle near Sahil Road and recovered two sacks containing charas, he said, adding that the seized drug weighed 77 Kilogrammes. The prosecutor stated that the accused were police officials belonging to the Jamshoro CIA.
