Police have arrested a lift operator for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy in an elevator of the operation theatre complex of the Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.
The incident reportedly took place at the Civil Hospital Karachi, where a lift operator allegedly sexually assaulted a minor boy inside the elevator. Police registered a case at the Eidgah Police Station based on a complaint filed by the child’s father.
In the FIR, the complainant stated that he worked as a labourer and his wife had been under treatment for the past 13 days in the Medical Ward 2 of the Civil Hospital. To attend to her, he would stay outside Medical Ward 23 with his three children.
On the night of July 7, at around 10:30pm, his 10-year-old son came to him and said that the lift operator at the OT complex took him inside the lift and went to the third floor, where he sexually assaulted him. After the assault, the accused gave the child Rs100 and threatened him not to tell anyone about it.
The child informed his father about it, who confronted the suspect identified as Abdul Waheed, son of Raheem. When questioned, the suspect got angry. However, with the help of other people and security guards, he was caught and beaten up.
At that moment, police also arrived at the scene. When the father explained the entire situation to the police, the suspect was arrested on the spot. After the child underwent a medical examination, a police surgeon confirmed that he had been sexually assaulted. Police have registered a case and further investigations are under way.
