This Interpretive Guide was created to clarify the meaning and intent of the Guiding Principles on business and human rights, developed during Professor Ruggie’s six-year mandate. It includes detailed explanations of key concepts, foundational principles, and operational principles, such as policy commitment, human rights due diligence, and remediation, along with specific guidance on grievance mechanisms and stakeholder communication. The Guide aims to support enterprises in understanding their responsibilities and developing effective policies while acknowledging that further operational guidance will be needed based on sector and context.
