Three Women of a Family Found Dead in Flat

KARACHI: Three women were found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a flat in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on December 7, while a man was also found in an unconscious state, according to the Karachi police spokesperson.

Chhipa sources identified the deceased women as Sameena, 52, wife of Iqbal, Maha, 22, wife of Yaseen, and Samreen, 19, daughter of Iqbal, and the unconscious man as Yaseen, son of Iqbal (around 30 years old).

Police initially suspected poisoning, but no conclusive evidence has been found at the scene to determine the exact cause of death. The bodies were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where their post-mortem examination reports would confirm their cause of death.

Police said the family had recently moved from Ranchore Line to Gulshan-e-Iqbal, adding that Sameena’s husband Muhammad Iqbal is believed to be mentally unstable. Meanwhile, the residential building’s management has restricted media access to the premises.

District East police chief SSP Zubair Nazeer Shaikh said: “We have not yet reached any conclusion about what actually happened and how the deaths occurred.”

SSP Shaikh said this involves a family of five: a man, his wife, their son and daughter, and the son’s wife. All three women have died, while the son is still in the hospital, but the man has not clearly explained what actually happened.

“The head of the family is saying some spiritual-type things, but he is not saying anything indicating that someone from outside came, and so far we have not seen anything suggesting physical injuries, such as bullets, torture marks or strangulation.”

Replying to a question, the officer said gas leak has been ruled out for now, as nothing has come to light, and there is no specific relevant footage available.

Responding to another query, he said Iqbal claimed that Maha had died on Saturday while the other women died on Sunday. He hoped that the head of the family would provide a proper statement at some point. “For now we can call this a mysterious case.”

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has sought a detailed report from the SSP. He directed police to conduct a transparent investigation, and include Yaseen’s medical condition and statement in the inquiry.

Lanjar termed the incident alarming, and assured that those responsible would be brought to justice. He instructed police to present the facts before the public as soon as possible.
