Yet another tragic road accident shook the city as two minor brothers riding a motorbike were crushed to death by a speeding water tanker near Kala Pul on Defence Korangi Road. The horrific incident triggered public outrage, with irate residents setting the tanker on fire.
According to reports, the water tanker struck the two boys, killing them instantly. Their bodies were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The driver fled the scene following the accident. Angered by the tragic deaths, nearby residents torched the water tanker.
Police arrived shortly afterward, and detained one individual on charges of setting the vehicle on fire. The fire department was also called in, and managed to extinguish the flames, though the front portion of the tanker was completely destroyed.
Police said the deceased were identified as 11-year-old Tauseef Shah and 10-year-old Ayan Shah. The boys were brothers and residents of the Korangi area. Their father owns a meat shop in A Market on Korangi Road. According to him, the boys had left home to visit Sea View on their motorbike.
The initial findings suggest negligence on both sides: the minors’ inexperience and the tanker’s excessive speed may have contributed to the accident. CCTV camera footage from the area is being collected to determine the exact circumstances.
Police also confirmed that the driver of the tanker fled the scene, and efforts are under way to arrest him, while one suspect has been taken into custody for allegedly setting the tanker on fire.
