Life Imprisonment for Two Men Convicted of Karachi Gang-Rape

Handcuffed prisoner in jail

In a historic ruling, a Karachi sessions court sentenced two men to life in jail for the gang rape of a 17-year-old girl. Muhammad Shakir and Hafeez were found guilty by the court of the horrible crime, which happened in September 2022 and was under the Mochko police station’s jurisdiction.

The judge, in a firm declaration of justice, stated, “I, therefore, convict and sentence the accused under Section 265-H(ii) of the Criminal Procedure Code for the offense punishable under Section 375-A of the Pakistan Penal Code to rigorous imprisonment for the remainder period of natural life.” This verdict serves as a stern message to those involved in such despicable acts that they will face severe consequences for their actions.

The court heard that Shakir and Hafeez had brutally attacked the teenage girl at Shakir’s residence on September 11, 2022. The victim’s mother had filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Mochko police station, detailing the horrific crime committed against her daughter. The FIR was registered under Sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 34 (common intention) of the PPC.

Shakir, who was already in prison, was produced in court for the sentencing, while Hafeez appeared on bail. The judge ordered both convicts to be incarcerated, ensuring they serve their sentence strictly in accordance with the law.

The case highlights the need for continued efforts to combat sexual violence and ensure that all citizens, particularly women and girls, feel safe and protected. It also underscores the importance of effective policing and investigation, as well as the role of the judiciary in upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights.
