SHRC Takes Action to Combat Transgender Discrimination in CNIC Issuance

The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken consistent measures to address discrimination faced by transgender individuals/Communities in CNIC issuance by NADRA authorities.

Responding promptly to complaints, SHRC has advocated for the rights of the transgender community, asking NADRA to ensure the timely issuance of CNICs without prejudice. In an encouraging actions, NADRA headquarters has heeded the call for action, acknowledging the concerns raised by Sana Khan, a prominent transgender activist from Hyderabad through SHRC.

NADRA regional office Karachi in communication has informed that resuming of CNIC issuance to transgender individuals, reflecting NADRA’s commitment to equality and inclusivity. This significant milestone marks a gains for human rights defenders such as transgender individuals in Hyderabad, Sindh. Trans community has been receiving their CNICs without discrimination or delay. SHRC appreciates NADRA for their swift response in upholding the fundamental rights of every citizen.
