State as the Absent Parent: Child Marriage in Sindh

“State as the Absent Parent: Child Marriage in Sindh” is a research publication by Legal Aid Society (LAS) which aims to analyze gaps and lacunas that prevent implementation of the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act of 2013 and the related rules of 2016 in Pakistan. It provides background on definitions of child marriage under international law and notes prevalence in Pakistan. The study examines factors that encourage and discourage child marriage, analyzes the mechanics and implementation of the relevant laws, discusses court cases, and presents findings and recommendations to help address gaps between existing knowledge and actions taken to prevent child marriage.
